To put together with light!
Yoga for Gardeners

As a Master Gardener in the Western Massachusetts Master Gardener Association, I am exploring the many links between yoga and gardening.

There is a place called reverence in the corner of my garden, that needs to be watered once a week.
-Oliver Wendell Holmes

In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the power of God was moving over the water. Then God commanded, "Let there be light"- and light appeared. The Book of Genesis

A garden is a place of pleasurable images. It is an area of delight where images of pain, anger, or sadness may be banished. It can act as a healing place, where we can substitute soothing images for disturbing ones.
--Julie Moir Messervy, author of "The Inward Garden"

Plants and people thrive on light. If you are a gardener you are already practicing a form of yoga, and if you practice yoga chances are good that you are developing a deeper connection to the earth. Yoga demands close listening to the physical body and that increased sensitivity inevitably opens you to a deeper awareness of the physical environment that nurtures all life.

I invite you to become Grounded in Yoga, consciously joining body, mind and spirit, becoming passionate for yoga and for extending that unity to our precious natural resources through good stewardship of the earth.

"IF A PLANT IS NOT THRIVING, IT IS STRUGGLING."
