A Few Guidelines If you are planning to take your first Yoga class there are a few things you need to know. The first thing to know is that yoga is more about self-acceptance than self-improvement. Many people begin yoga to deal with a painful condition in the body and find that the benefits go far beyond the original goal. One of the joys is learning that there is nowhere to get to in yoga. It's all about noticing the scenery along the way. Following are some guidelines and suggestions that you will find useful in your practice of yoga: --Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes that will allow you to move freely. If you have your own yoga "sticky" mat and eye pillow bring them to class. Mats, blankets, straps and pillows are also available in our studio. --Let your teacher know if you have any specific health conditions, such as high or low blood pressure, back problems, sinus troubles, recent major surgery, or if you are pregnant, etc. She will be able to modify certain postures for your safety. --To receive the maximum benefit from the course, it is recommended that you practice what you learn in class daily. You might think of your yoga practice as a spiritual practice or a "quiet" time in your day. --It is best to perform yoga postures on an empty stomach. Wait one to two hours after a full meal before practicing. You may, however, have a glass of juice or fruit up to an hour before class. --The benefits of yoga are available to you regardless of your age, flexibility or degree of proficiency in the exercises. Yoga can help!
